Apple sent the iOS 27.2 release candidate to developers on October 19. It brings Siri AI to five more languages, Suggested Actions in Messages and Dual Capture on Group FaceTime calls. The public release is expected next week.
Apple sent the release candidate of iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 to developers on Monday, October 19, MacRumors reported. A release candidate is usually the build that ships, and 9to5Mac says the public update arrives next week.
The headline change is language support for Siri AI. When Apple launched Siri AI in beta on September 14, it worked in English only. Apple’s newsroom said then that French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish would follow “next month.” The release candidate adds all five.
What is in the release candidate
Confirmed in the developer build, according to MacRumors and 9to5Mac:
- Siri AI in five more languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
- Suggested Actions in Messages. Buttons appear under a message when it mentions something you can act on, such as a meeting time. One tap creates a calendar event, a reminder or a note. You can choose which kinds of suggestions show up. The feature was in the iOS 27 betas this summer and was cut before launch.
- Dual Capture on Group FaceTime. iOS 27 let you stream the front and rear cameras at once on one-on-one FaceTime calls. iOS 27.2 extends it to group calls. It is on by default on iPhone 17 and newer.
- Two new Home app lock settings. “Lock After Closing” locks a compatible smart lock a set time after the door shuts. “Door Left Open” sends an alert when a door stays open too long.
- Smaller changes: Apple TV profiles on iPhone and iPad, a split Up Next queue in Podcasts, anniversary alerts in Call Context and a new Apple Music icon.
Not in it: the redesigned Health app features Apple tested in earlier 27.2 betas. MacRumors reports they were removed and will come in a later update.
What it means if you run a remote team
Siri AI becomes usable for more of your team. If people on your team work in Spanish or French, including colleagues in Quebec, Siri AI can now answer them in their own language instead of English. Siri AI still needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
Suggested Actions is the feature you’ll use daily. Most client scheduling still happens in texts: “Can we do Thursday at 3?” Turning that into a calendar event in one tap removes a step you repeat all week. It works in Messages only, so it won’t help with WhatsApp threads. For those, WhatsApp’s own guest calling links are the bigger recent change.
Dual Capture is a small win for demos. On a group call you can show your face and the product, the whiteboard or the site walk at the same time, without flipping cameras.
If you manage company iPhones, test it before you push it. A .2 update is usually a safe install. You can still use your device management tool to hold it for a week while a few people try it.
It’s also the update Apple’s new home gear needs. Setting up a HomeView requires iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2. HomeView ships on November 13. If you’re deciding between it and the $149 HomePod mini 2, Enzo’s HomeView vs HomePod mini 2 guide covers it, and the full HomeView launch details list prices and dates.
One more Apple date to watch: the October 28 “Pro and tell” launch, where new MacBook Pros are expected.
