Apple has invited press to a hands-on launch in Los Angeles on October 28, with no livestream. Reports point to touchscreen OLED MacBook Pros, an M6 iMac and an OLED iPad mini. If a MacBook is on your list, wait eight days.

Apple will show new products in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28. The company sent invitations to press and creators on October 19 with the tagline “Pro and tell,” and marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted on X that he “can’t wait to pro and tell next week.”

It isn’t a keynote. Engadget and TidBITS report that there won’t be a public livestream. Invited media get a day of hands-on time instead, the same format Apple used for HomeView and the new Apple TV 4K on October 13. Expect press releases and first impressions that morning.

What is confirmed and what isn’t

Confirmed by Apple’s invitation:

  • Date: October 28.
  • Place: Los Angeles, in person, for press and creators.
  • Tagline: “Pro and tell.”

Reported, not confirmed:

  • Touchscreen MacBook Pro with an OLED display. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported touch support for months, and 9to5Mac found touch hints in macOS 27 betas. Reports describe 14- and 16-inch models with tandem OLED panels, a small Dynamic Island, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and a lighter body.
  • The name. Earlier rumors called it “MacBook Ultra.” MacRumors reads the “Pro” in the tagline as a sign Apple keeps the MacBook Pro name.
  • M6 14-inch MacBook Pro and M6 iMac. The M6 chip arrived in the Mac mini in August.
  • OLED iPad mini.
  • Ship date. Gurman said November 6 is likely, with Apple Stores resetting overnight on November 5.

No prices have been reported for any of it.

What it means if you buy laptops for your team

If a MacBook Pro purchase is on your list this month, wait eight days. Even if you don’t want a touchscreen, new models usually push the current ones into sales, and retailers are already moving. Amazon and Best Buy cut the 16-inch M5 Max MacBook Pro with 36 GB of memory and 2 TB of storage from $4,399 to $3,499 on October 19, MacRumors reported.

The touch models are the ones to judge carefully. An OLED panel with touch is a first for the Mac, and first versions carry first-version risk. For a laptop that runs Slack, Zoom and a browser all day, the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in the current models aren’t slow. The reasons to upgrade would be the lighter body and the screen.

Memory is the line to watch on launch day. RAM costs have pushed device prices up all fall, as Samsung’s Galaxy A increases showed. If Apple raises the price of the configurations people actually buy, 32 GB and up, the discounted current models get more attractive.

If the laptop lives on a desk most of the day, the screen you plug it into matters as much as the one on the lid.
