The Galaxy A07 and A17 went up 44% to 109% at Samsung's Brazilian store. US prices rose too, by much less. Memory chips are behind both, and laptops buy the same chips.
The Galaxy A07 is Samsung’s entry-level phone. It launched in Brazil at R$ 899, about $180. Samsung’s own Brazilian store now lists it at R$ 1,299, about $261. The 256 GB version went from R$ 1,099 to R$ 2,299, which is more than double.
TecMundo surveyed the prices and Tecnoblog reported them on October 6. They are list prices on Samsung’s online store, before promotions. Dollar figures here use the October 9 commercial rate of R$ 4.9851 to the dollar.
- Galaxy A07 4G, 128 GB: R$ 899 to R$ 1,299 ($180 to $261), up 44.5%
- Galaxy A07 4G, 256 GB: R$ 1,099 to R$ 2,299 ($220 to $461), up 109%
- Galaxy A17 4G, 256 GB: R$ 1,599 to R$ 2,399 ($321 to $481), up 50%
- Galaxy A17 5G, 256 GB: R$ 1,849 to R$ 2,699 ($371 to $541), up 46%
Tecnoblog says the Galaxy A27, A37 and A57 went up by smaller amounts, and Galaxy S26 prices in Brazil rose by R$ 300 to R$ 1,300 ($60 to $261). Samsung has not explained the Brazilian increases.
The US got a smaller version of the same thing
Samsung raised US prices on the Galaxy A line on October 2, according to 9to5Google. The increases run from $20 to $70. The Galaxy A17 went from $249 to $269, about 8%. The 256 GB Galaxy A57 went from $609 to $679.
Same company, same product line, same month. In Brazil the cheapest phones moved 44% to 109%. In the US they moved single digits to about 13%.
Why
Memory. RAM and flash storage have gotten more expensive as AI data centers absorb supply, and phone makers are passing the cost through. A memory increase that disappears into the price of a $1,000 flagship is a big share of what a $180 phone costs to build, which is why the bottom of the lineup moved the most.
The top end is feeling it too. Leaker Kartikey Singh reported in July that Xiaomi has dropped the 18 Ultra, its next camera flagship. Notebookcheck linked the decision to memory prices. Xiaomi has not confirmed it.
What it means if you buy hardware for a team
Laptops buy the same RAM and SSD chips as phones. Memory is also the line on a laptop spec sheet that buyers keep raising, because local AI tools and a browser full of SaaS tabs eat it. Expect the configurations people actually want, 32 GB and up, to absorb the most of whatever comes next.
If you equip people in Brazil, price devices there now and assume they keep moving. The same Galaxy A17 rose about 8% in the US and 46% to 50% in Brazil within weeks. Budgets built on last year’s Brazilian prices are already short.
If a hardware refresh is on your plan for early next year, models already on shelves at their launch prices are the safer buy. Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra, which ships October 16, is one example of a machine priced before the next round.
