On October 26 Apple raised its top US trade-in estimates for most Macs and every iPad. MacBook Pro goes from $1,315 to $1,435, MacBook Air from $705 to $795, Mac Pro from $2,195 to $2,560. iPhone and Apple Watch values did not change.

Apple raised its US trade-in estimates for iPads and most Macs on Monday, October 26. MacRumors spotted the change first and 9to5Mac published the full list. 9to5Mac counts it as the second increase in two months. All figures are Apple’s “up to” amounts, which assume a recent model in good condition. Your own quote depends on the model, year and configuration you enter on Apple’s trade-in page.

What changed

Device Before Now Change
MacBook Pro $1,315 $1,435 +$120
MacBook Air $705 $795 +$90
Mac Studio $1,460 $1,700 +$240
Mac Pro $2,195 $2,560 +$365
iMac $385 $440 +$55
Mac mini $620 $645 +$25
iPad Pro $905 $915 +$10
iPad Air $510 $525 +$15
iPad mini $320 $340 +$20
iPad $280 $300 +$20

iMac Pro stays at $340. iPhone, Apple Watch and Android values did not move. They are still at the levels Apple set on September 9, when it lowered the top iPhone payouts after its fall iPhone event, according to 9to5Mac.

Confirmed vs. reported

Confirmed: the new estimates are live on Apple’s US store as of October 26, per MacRumors and 9to5Mac. Apple did not announce the change or say why. Reported and unconfirmed: a touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro at Apple’s Pro and tell event on Wednesday, October 28. Bloomberg expects it to cost up to $500 more than today’s model.

What it means

If you were already going to hand your Mac back to Apple, the timing just got better. A top-condition MacBook Pro is worth $120 more in credit today than it was last week. The payout comes as Apple credit, so check what a private sale or a reseller would pay before you accept it.

Apple moves these numbers around launches. On September 9, right after its iPhone event, it cut the top iPhone payouts. Nothing says Mac values hold after Wednesday. If you plan to upgrade a team laptop this quarter, get the quote this week and decide once the new MacBook Pro prices are out. If the extra $500 for touch doesn’t buy anything your team uses, the current model plus the trade-in credit is the cheaper path.

Whatever you buy, the desk matters as much as the laptop. Enzo’s guides cover the best monitor for a MacBook Pro, 27 vs. 32 inches for a Mac and running two monitors from a MacBook.
