XREAL Aura pre-orders opened October 28 in the US at $1,279 and $1,499, or $1,099 and $1,299 with a launch offer through December. The glasses run Android XR and pair with a belt-clip puck. Release is mid-November.

XREAL opened US pre-orders for the Aura on October 28. It is the first pair of glasses built on Google’s Android XR platform, according to Engadget and 9to5Google. Release is mid-November in the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea. A wider rollout is planned for 2027.

What changed

The Aura is a pair of display glasses that connect by USB-C cable to a phone-sized compute puck. The puck clips to your waistband and holds the battery and a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip. Both sit outside the frame, so the glasses weigh 95 grams, per 9to5Google.

Model List price Launch offer through December
12GB RAM, 256GB storage $1,279 $1,099
16GB RAM, 512GB storage $1,499 $1,299

Pre-orders are open at XREAL.com and Best Buy. The offer saves $180 on the 12GB model and $200 on the 16GB model, even though the headline says $200 off. Both sizes (standard and large) are sold, and the box includes a carrying case.

Specs as XREAL lists them: Sony micro-OLED at 1200p and 120Hz, a 70-degree field of view, electrochromic dimming, Bose speakers, 6DoF tracking with hand tracking, and TÜV Rheinland 5-star eye comfort certification. You control it by voice, hand, keyboard, trackpad or a game controller. A wired mode mirrors a laptop or console onto a spatially tracked window.

Confirmed vs. reported

Everything above is XREAL’s own launch information, relayed by 9to5Google and Engadget. Nobody has published independent testing yet. Battery life, display clarity and how long the glasses stay comfortable are all unmeasured. XREAL says about 150 made-for-XR experiences launch with it, including NBA and Fallout titles. Those are entertainment apps. How much of the work software you use runs on Android XR is not confirmed.

What it means

At $1,099 to $1,499 this is not a Ray-Ban Meta style daily wearable. It is a portable monitor you wear. It competes with a second screen and has little overlap with a camera-and-audio frame. If your use is a private large screen on flights or in hotels, the wired laptop mode is the feature to watch in reviews. If you want hands-free calls and photos, it is the wrong category.

I’d wait for reviews before paying. The launch offer runs through December, so waiting for mid-November hands-on tests costs you nothing. The question to answer first is whether a 70-degree field of view replaces a real monitor for you. Even Realities’ G2 is the other display pair in this price class, covered in its knowledge-base news, and EssilorLuxottica’s slowing smart glasses growth shows where the camera frames stand. For the lighter category that works today, see best smart glasses for work and the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 review. If a desk screen is the real goal, start with the best monitor for a MacBook Pro.

I haven’t tested the Aura.
